Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport World’s Best in On Time Departures

The 2023 Annual On-Time Performance (OTP) Report which analyses and recognizes the world’s airports and airlines who have demonstrated remarkable resilience, navigating through challenges, and adapting to changing market dynamics, has been released by Cirium, a data and analytic firm serving the travel industry, has released.

The report comes at a time when passenger traffic is at a peak. According to the Airports Council International (ACI), an advocacy group that represents the collective interests of airports around the world, 2024 is expected to be a milestone for global passenger traffic as it reaches 9.4 billion passengers, surpassing the year 2019 that welcomed 9.2 billion passengers (102.5% of the 2019 level).

The 2023 OTP Report found that U.S. airports have thrived in handling that demand with 13 grabbing spots on the list of top 20 airports. Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport (MSP) led the way landing at number one on the list in the Global and Large Airport category with an OTP rate of 84.44 percent. That figure is almost six percentage points higher than the global average of 78.52 percent.

Spots six through nine were taken by Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) (83.99%); Washington D.C.’s Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) (83.2%); Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) (83.09%); Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) (82.97%) and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) (82.75%) respectively in the global category.

Filling out the representation of U.S. airports in the top twenty list were: coming in at 11th place, New York’s Laguardia Airport (LGA) (81.34%); Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) (80.36%) in 13th place; San Diego International Airport (SAN) (80.32%) in 14th place; Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) (80.26%) in 15th place; Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) (79.76) in 17th place; Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) (79.67%) in 18th place; and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) (79.59%) in 19th place.
